Social Enrichment Programs

ICS is currently in the planning stages for expanding our social engagement offerings in the community and to be conducted in the ICS Enrichment Center once built. These programs would be organized and conducted by ICS or its nonprofit or school community partners. Some of the programs in development are:

  • Basketball Camp - This group would meet once weekly to work on various basketball skills including dribbling, passing, shooting, and teamwork. We also would be working on stamina, coordination and flexibility. There would be times during the year that we would partner with a local sports organization for people with special needs to provide a program that includes inclusive basketball games.

  • Dinner Club - This group would meet one or more times a week to enjoy dinner together. Participants would meet at various locations in the community determined in advance or in the Enrichment Center once it is built.

  • Friday Night Summer Night Cookouts - During the summer months we would hold gatherings in the pavilion situated in our greenspace after residents are done with work or day programming.

  • Events organized by other nonprofits - Our Enrichment Center would be an asset to our nonprofit community partners who don’t have their own space and would like to use it for activities for their constituents and include our residents.

  • Cooking Classes and Cafe - The kitchen in the Enrichment Center would serve as a vocational training site (for an outside agency) as well as a teaching kitchen to help residents and community members learn healthy food preparation and eating habits. It also would serve as a cafeteria-style cafe 3 nights a week for residents to gather for a communal dinner.

  • Parties/Dances - For our residents, other adults with DD in the greater community, and other community members without disabilities who want to enjoy an evening with us.

  • Summer Volunteer Program - This group will meet 2-3 times per week at specific business sites to offer volunteer services for approximately 1.5 hours. The goal of this program is to provide social enrichment opportunities while also working on employable skills development.
