Independent Living Skills Development

Our programming is still in development, whether it will be coursework that we develop and present, or coursework we utilize with a community partner. Some of the ideas under consideration include:

  • Cooking Classes and Food Management - Everything from how to buy and store food, to how to prepare healthy and delicious meals, and to how to clean up afterwards.

  • Home Safety - Everything needed to maintain a safe and healthy household.

  • Relationship Safety - This would be a series of classes in which we help adults with DD learn how to develop and maintain healthy friendships in person and online; to have respectful and rewarding romantic relationships; to understand stranger danger, and to interact appropriately with colleagues in the workplace.

  • Navigating Transportation Options - While many of the residents would utilize their Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and family for most transportation, we would help residents understand how to use rideshare options like Uber and Lyft and public options like Medina County Transit.
